Si l’ouverture du Salon de l’Auto 2050 fête toujours l’automobile, il y a un arrière goût particulier, cette année, que la célébration du look rétro-hydro des derniers véhicules présentés ne masque guère… En effet, ce matin, en France comme dans le reste de l’Europe, la voiture dans son entendement le plus ancien a vécu : tôt, ce matin, et comme partout en France, les équipes de la voirie de la Municipalité du Grand Paris ont démonté les derniers feux tricolores de la capitale. Désormais les voitures s’autorégulent sur l’ensemble du territoire européen. Bien que, quand on parle de voiture… que reste-t-il de commun entre la voiture de nos grands-parents et celle d’aujourd’hui, dotée d’un ODA (Organe de Décision Artificielle) embarquée, dotée de capacités robotiques permettant à l’ODA de prendre le contrôle intégral du véhicule ?
Longtemps, les feux tricolores restèrent en activité aux croisement de nos rues, comme le volant de direction, un archaïsme que les conducteurs ont eu du mal a laisser partir. Le volant a été remplacé par un simple joystick, l’ODA assurant la précision de la trajectoire. Les feux tricolores, eux, voient leur temps se finir ce jour, 150 ans après leur création : quand la circulation automobile dans les villes devint trop dense, quand les accidents de la circulation augmentèrent trop vite, quand les véhicules automobiles devinrent dangereux aussi bien pour les piétons que les autres véhicules circulant sur la chaussée, comme les chevaux ou les charrettes à bras.
Rétrospectivement, la vraie révolution de la voiture, peut importe ce que l’on met sous ce vocable, fut l’apparition de la gestion « pear to pear » de la circulation. La couverture globale du territoire par les réseaux de télécommunication de dernière génération, ainsi que l’augmentation des capacités des ordinateurs selon la loi de Moore, ont vite permis la gestion décentralisée de la circulation automobile : chaque véhicule partage sa trajectoire et ses paramètres utiles avec les véhicules susceptibles d’être en interaction directe avec lui.
